I am about to be OBSOLETE

I am currently running Windows XP on my PC. I was hoping that now that I have put XP(I used to have Win2k 14 days ago) I will have the latest OS and will be able to run all the new softwares that my processor will be able to support. But while I was browsing through the Microsoft website I saw that on 10th October 2006 Windows XP which is not running Service Pack 2 will becom obsolete and the newsoftware releases will not run on WinXP.

I ask - Why this specific Date? Already all there new software like Windows Media Player 10 and Internet Explorer 7 though still in the BETA stage will only function in SP2. I am pretty sure that they will unBETAfy all these softwares on 11 or 10 October. Now I will have to find the Service Pack 2 CD from somewhere. Even though it is free if you want to get it from Microsoft itself you need to pay Rs.450 for shipping. I am pretty sure that by the time I wil get SP2 it too will become obsolete and everyone will start using Vista.

First movie

Today was the first time ever in the history of CODE, that we had shot the whole movie in school in one day and the DVD on which we had written it has actually work. Unlike the past experience with movie making this DVD(which again is of a local company) seems to be working just fine. And the competetion is on 7th September so I still have a lot of time left to edit the movie.
I think I will use all the idea that I had had for the the pervious movie. This one is for eSpice that is Delhi Public School NOIDA and the topic of the movie is "A Day in a Geek's Life". We seem to have a pretty good story which I had thought of...Thank You. We shot it in around 4 periods inside the CODE lab only. We played Counter Strike for only 30 minutes(kasam se). I hope this one truns out to be good.

I am Out

My exams are starting from 11th September and I also have to go to some computer symposiums so I might not be able to post as often as I have been posting. I might not be able topost at all. Expect a post only when something reallly really great has happened. Last night while sleeping I felt that I am not putting the same amount of effor that I used to put when I was in class 8th. My exams wil get over on 22nd Septemper. For more details regarding my exam schedule you can go to the following link.

Also from now on I might now be able to come online on Yahoo Messenger or any other online messengers for that matter. I am going to study with full concentration for this time period. No computer, only some phone calls here and there. Remember -

I will be BACK

ElastoMania

I have been playing this game - ElastoMania for a very long time and realized that it was time to blog about it. Elasto Mania is a motorbike simulation game based on a real physical model. You can download the shareware version of Elma by clicking on this link it is about 1.1MB in size. The game requires Win95/98/2000 with directX 5.0 or later, 16MB RAM. It supports a sound card.

Freakin' Yahoo Mail BETA!

I had got the invitation for Yahoo Mail Beta really long time back. When I click on the link that says that "Show me Yahoo Mail BETA" the stupid page does not load. It only shows a freaky dude jumping as a waiting image. Then when I leave it open for a very long time like half an hour then it tells me that my resolution(800 X 600) is very less to load the Great Yahoo Mail BETA. It does have an option to see it anyways so I click on it hoping that the page would load there and then. But, no I leave it for anothe half an hour and nothing happens. This is very very irritating. I did not expect this from Yahoo!

Other Backward Classes

There are many laws in our country that were made by the government to bring the status of the so called OBS, Scheduled Castes and Tribes. But even after implying a hunder thousand laws the number of SC/ST/OBC has not decreased at all. And the politicians say that as the number has not gone down they will keep the same laws. This gives them a lot of votes from the SC\ST\OBC community. Dont they have enough brains to realize that they should either

  • Change the laws
  • Remove the laws
  • Remove the funda of SC\ST\OBS

But no the power and money hungry politicians only want more votes and money. It is rightly said by Puff Daddy, "It is all about the Benjamins". Not only this they have recently introduced about 50% reservation for these backward classes in some colleges. Now how is the normal man going to get into the college he want to get into. So, obviously he/she will have to go abroad for studies. And, after all that the politicians have the nerve to say that India is not able to go forward because all the students are going abroad and they dont want to stay and work in India.

This makes me Angry!!!

You can't see this!

I have made a template for myself and my friend. But you cant see the CSS editing that I have done on the template on FireFox. It looks great on Internet Explorer. It is even W3C Validated. I dont know what I should do. Any suggestions??

What is a Google?

Well, most of us when we first heard of Google would have thought that Larry Page and Sergey Brin named it so cause it was fun to say. If you did not then dont read this post but I was stupid enough to think that it was just one of those funny words. But "What is a Google?". The answer to that is

'Googol' is a mathematical term of a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

Blogger in Beta

Blogger in Beta was released on 14 August. But I got a link to switch over to the new blogger yesterday, so here is a post about Blogger Beta.

Blogger in Beta

Many people have been asking Blogger to add features onto Blogger. Features similar to that of WordPress. With the beta you can:

Take a look at the tour to see all the new things you can do (well, a lot of the new things ... they didn't all fit in the tour).

    Problem in Beta

There is a small problem in Blogger Beta. As one would remember that when, you make any changes in your settings or the template then there was a button to Republish the blog to see the changes in the blog. But now when you save the changes there is no such button to do so and it does not republish the blog automatically either. So the only way that you can see the changes is to -

    • Make a new post and Publish it
    • Click on Edit Post dont make any changes and Publish that post again

This is the only problem that I have seen till now on Blogger Beta. But apart from that Blogger Beta Rocks!!!

    8 Planets??

    Pluto no more??

Pluto has been stripped of its status of its status as a planet on Thursday when scientists from around the world redefined it as a dwarf planet, leaving just 8 classical planets in our solar system.
Discovered in 1930, Pluto was considered the 9th planet in our solar system. After tumultuous week of clashing over the essence of the cosmos, The International Astronomical Union drew up a clear distinction Pluto to the other 8 planets.
Under the new rules, a planet is -

A celestial body that is in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit

Pluto is disqualified as its oblong orbit overlaps Neptune's. It will be classified in a new category of "dwarf planets" similar to what have long termed "minor planets"
The definition also lays out a third class of lesser objects that orbit the sun - "small solar system bodies" a term that will apply to numerous asteroids, comets abd other natural statellites.

    Happy B'Day Blogger

Happy B'Day Blogger.com. On 23rd August 1999, Pyra Labs launched Blogger, which Ev announced on his own blog. Check out the thumbnail of Blogger when it was really old.

From those humble roots, a bloggerish forest has grown. And a lot of what they continue to build today is informed by the philosophy of the original Pyra team.

As many of you would have noticed that a few days back the logo of Blogger had changed to a dog wearing a Birthday hat. That was in celebrations of Blogger's B'Day. It has completed 7 years and 1 human year= 7 dog years.

    Keep It Up Blogger!!!!!!

    Computer Test

Today we had our Half Yearly Computer Science Class Test. It was pretty good , I knew the answer to every single question except one question. The question was, "HTML is the subset of which language?". I had no idea what the answer was. Nobody in our class knew. I mean I do know HTML, CSS and JS more than anyone in the class and for some strange reason I am expected to know the answer but I did not. Well I asked the teacher and the answer was SGML. Have you even heard of something like that. I told ma'am that you had never told us anything about SGML even the guys in our class who dont do anything apart from study did not know the answer. So from the it is quite clear that she did not tell us. Well! I will be fighting for this for a pretty long time. And if possible I will either convinve ma'am not to add up marks for this question or give every single sutdent full marks for that question.

    WikiPedia rip off

While I was searching Google to find some stupid philisophy to put in the "Think About it!!" section of the blog in the sidebar I found this webiste. It is a totaly rip off of WikiPedia. It has the exact same user interface as WikiPedia but all the articles in it are very very very very stupid. This is an excerpt from the article titled Computer -

    Computers are stupid.
You are using a computer right now to look at this! A computer may also be used to interact with other internet web sites on the world wide web. These other web sites are most likely porn.
This article is stupid. You can help by rewriting it

I mean totally stupid but kinda fun to read. You can check out this website to at this link.

Ah! The 50th post. The golden jublee post. And for it I have changed the whole template. I know I said in the last post that it would take another 2 months but the what the heck. I made it so I put it. There is still some stuff that is left that I will complete as the time goes by. Dont expect me to change the template again after 100 posts. Mybe I will change it again after 500 posts. Tell me whether you like this template or not or would you like me to alter ,add or remove something from it. Yipeeeeee 50 posts!!!!!

    My life is screwed

I had gone to this computer symposium on a Thursday a few weeks back. So I had missed out on some prcatical work. Yesterday the teacher wanted to check the file and quite obviously my work wasnt complete. So I told him that can I give the parcatical file at the end o this period. And he says NO!! So because of that stupic competetion I have missed out on the checking of two practicals and that teacher wont even check it again.

    The 9

You might be wondering what I mean when I say "The 9" am I talking about the 9 o'clock news or am I talking about "The 9" most wanted criminals. Well I dont mean any of that. By saying "The 9"(yet again) I am reffering to Yahoo's new service called well yeah you guessed it "The 9". It is stil in BETA testing but I think that the concept is great. It allows you to -

Be in-the-know with a daily countdown of the Web's weirdest, funniest and most
    talked about stories and videos.

When you first open the website you see a huge blank space in the middle where the video will load. And on the right side you see a bar with links to wierd or funny websites. These website are called Today's The 9 . If you allow the video to play the host Maria Sansone tells you about the several website that are on the sidebar. You can check out the website - which are pretty nice by the way and then vote for them. The sites are fun. Marao Sansone is hot. So the website is overall great. But the video quality is pretty bad which maybe because I have a bad internet connection. 8 out of 10.

P.S.: I found I do Dog tricks on The 9

    Hotmail BETA

I finally got a chance to get my hands on the Windows Live Mail also referred to as the Hotmail BETA. It is pretty nice and the loading time is less that that of Yahoo and is less than GmaIl if you have loaded it once before on the computer. But it takes a lot of time to load if it is loading for the first time. You have a choice between three different layouts to chpoose from and also you have the freedom of choosing any color that you like. At first when you think that the website is loaded the screen looks something like this -

But actually a lot is left. So you wait onother 15 minutes and a screen shows up that has recently updated contacts, new mails, amount of space left and an ad of Windows Live on the right side. The inbox is pretty clean too. You have a pane on the top that shows the name, sender and dae of the email and stuff. Similar to outlook. And at the bottom you can actually read the mail. You have buttons for mark as read and stuff like that on the top. On the side there is another frame that allows you to choose stuff like - Mail, Contacts and Calendar and stuff like that.

In the contacts part you can see the names of all your contacts on the left side and on the right side you see there details including the photo.

The calendar part I haven't explored much but looks like this -

And then composing a mail part is pretty good to. It tells you your spelling mistakes exactly like it does in Word. And you can right click on it to see correct spelling suggestions.

Isn't it just great. I love it. I would give it 8.5 out of 10. Keep it up Microsoft. And I totaly appreciate the free 2GB inbox.

    I do Dog Trix

Sorry I wasnt blogging for a long time now. It wasn't that I did not have time, the thing was that I could not get myself to sit on one win window and write something. Well I have found some things that I could blog about. So here goes.
I found this site somewhere and found it to be very amusing. It is not very elaborate but is good if you want some fun. The URL is http://www.idodogtricks.com/index_flash.html. In this a flash movie loads. And then there is a small text box to enter commands. And whatever you write the dog does. Some of the commangs that I tried and worked are -

    • Jump
    • Rollover
    • Stand
    • Lick
    • Bark

If you write something that it does not understand then it gives a witty reply and barks. It is completely useless but is a little bit of fun. So do check it out.

    Picasa Web Albums

Google Picasa Web AlbumI signed on on Google Picasa Web Albums(BETA) a few days ago. I tried it today so I am blogging about it. It is pretty nice, though you need to sign up and then wait for them to approve your request. Images are uploaded pretty quickly much faster as compared to Yahoo! Photos. The only downside with Google Picasa Web Albums is that it allows you to upload photos of only 250 MB which I believe that they will increase once it is open to everyone and is out of BETA testing. Uploading photos is very quick and easy. It changes the size of the photos automatically so it does not take as much space on there servers as they taking on your Hard Drive. Overall I would give it 8/10 I would have given it 9.5 but only 250 MB .... Come on Google

    Close the Window(Vista)

Well...seeing my bad luck lately it was pretty sure that my dreams of putting Windows Vista would never come true. But I still tried - I put the CD inside and well it seems that I have a 498GHz processor. So well Vista did not work(bummer). So I have now installed Windows XP. This OS is pretty good as well. I have made 5 partitions -

    • C: - OS - 3.5 GB
    • D: - Paging - 1GB
    • E: - Program Files - 8.5GB
    • F: - Data - 10GB
    • G: - Music - 14.2GB

So, right now I am pretty happy with the OS. Though I do wish to upgrade from Windows XP Home Edition to SP2. I will be installing Longhorn on the other PC on a VM so you can still hope for some screenshots.

    Windows Vista

I have a very raddar kissim kaprocessor. But I was just going through the details checking if it is 800MHz or not so that I could run Vista. I always use to think that I have a 533MHz processor. Well I found out that I have a Intel Celeron processor and the minimum for a processor is 950MHz and the maximum is 2.8GHz. Which means that I can totally run Windows Vista on it. My dad has go the DVD of Windows Vista Beta 2 so I will be installing it instead of XP. Aint that great. If all goes as planned I will soon post more stuff about Vista.

The Fast The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Yesterday I went with Avi to watch The Fast The Furious: Tokyo Drift. The newspaper here in India gave it only two stars. Well I think it deserves at least four. It is such a great movie. Great races. Mainly drifts as the name suggests but still great. It would have been better if there were just one drag. Mostly the cars were very small, as they needed to drift. No not much speed as there was technique while driving. The first race was the only one that had a lot of speed.

    Blogger 4 Word

Blogger for word is a service from Blogger with collaboration with Microsoft Word. It allows you to write, publish and edit post on WinWord and then publish them whenever you like. All you need to do is download a small application that is of about 2 MB from the following link. And then you just need to install it and voila. You can now start writing your posts and publishing them without even opening a web browser. Only downside is that you cannot add pictures in the posts. But that is not such a hug problem….i hope.

    LaunchCAST

Check this out people the LaunchCAST player. I really love it a lot. It allows you to listen to all kinds of differnt music for free and legally. It is a Yahoo service and therefore it is quite obviously GREAT. It allows you to donwload any number of songs if you pay them something like 5$ or Rs.250 which is pretty cheap as one CD costs around that much. All you need to have is the Internet Explorer and the Media player to listen to some great music. It has 35 predefined stations of different genres and moods. You can also make your own station by rating artists, songs and albums. There is a 30 second long commercial after every 2-3 songs but it is worth it. Here is a screenshot -

And the music quality is great too!

    Songs....

    Song list again –

    • Rihanna – Unfaithful

    • Rihanna – Pon De Replay

    • FreshlyGround – DooBee

    Pain in the Back-Up

After taking the back up on the other computer I thought that I would write every single file that used to be on my computer on 4 DVD’s. So I got 4 DVD’s and guess what??? The computer’s DVD writer is not working properly. So if I still plan to write on a disc then I will require around 21 CDs and writing on these 21 CDs will take ages. I don’t know what I will do. Changing your OS is a pain in the A$$.

    Sunday, August 6

    UBUTNU

I had to reformat my computer so I decided that I will change the Operating System as well. I was thinking of changing to Windows XP but as the CD is not available at the moment I am switching to LINUX Ubuntu to be exact. So I took that back-up and decided to put the OS. But I want my sister to check the back-up just to make sure there is no data loss. But she says she has “work”. I mean it will take an hour at maximum and all she is doing right now is watching TV and roaming around. The computer is a shared resource and she needs to contribute if any help is required. But NO. This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo unfair

    Google on a Roll

Check out the Google Notebook and the Google Web Accelerator . They are so totally so cool and useful. Both of them run on your browser’s standard buttons bar and are only 1.5 MB downloads. The Google Notebook allows use to save snippets of data quickly on to something similar to a scratchpad. Then you can view edit and delete stuff from your notebook anytime you like. You don’t need to open a new browser to edit a small window opens in the website that you are already viewing and allows you to make necessary changes. You can even choose to open it in a completely new browser and there the User Interface is quite similar to that of Gmail. The Web Accelerator well is accelerates the speed of loading a web page similar to that of the download manager. It does not require any payment or anything and works nicely on your standard buttons bar. Check it out yo!
